Writing a call script that sounds human, not robotic

Clio Team · Sep 8, 2026 · 7 min read

Keep each turn short

People on the phone take in one idea at a time. Aim for one or two sentences per turn and end with a clear question.

Open with who and why

Say the business name and what the agent can help with. Callers relax when they know what to expect.

Write for the ear

  • Read the script aloud before you ship it.
  • Spell out times and numbers the way you would say them.
  • Avoid long lists; offer two options, not six.
